Pete and I moved to Tam O'Shanter in early 1966.  The golf course opened in July or August of that year.

In the early and mid-1970s golf was king and partying ran a close second.  In 1973 the Invitational Tourney (member/guest) had 104 teams with a calcutta pool between $40,000 and $50,000.  The next year there were 96 teams and the calcutta was about the same amount.  This was a three-day tournament.

The TOS women spent a lot of time making all kinds of food for the lunches and dinners for the tournament.  Most all of the labor to put the course in shape was done by Men's Club volunteers.  We had very little overhead and all the money went for prizes.  For the Man/Tam, couples would line up outside the clubhouse hours ahead of time to be sure to get registered for a spot in the tournament.

Those were different days with different lifestyles and it was great fun.  We can enjoy those 'good old days' memories while appreciating the more conservative, family-oriented community today.
